Wayne was born July 22, 1942 in Devil's Lake, North Dakota. His parents were Harold and Ella Diesen. He had 4 brothers and 1 sister. They moved from North Dakota to Montana when Wayne was 12. Wayne enlisted in the Navy when he was 18. Getting out of the Navy he moved to Ione, Washington and it was there he met Norma Benson that he married in 1966. They had two wonderful sons (Brad and Kevin). He worked at Silver Creek Sawmill in Cusick, then moved to Monroe, Washington in 1969 where he worked as a correctional officer for 7 years. He attended college while there and when leaving the WSR he was Sgt. The Diesen family moved back to Usk, Washington in 1976. Wayne worked at the sawmill in Ione and later at the mill in Oldtown, Id. When the mill in Oldtown shut down he went back to college where he got another degree in drafting. He worked for Sewell's for a short period of time then was a paraeducator at Newport and Cusick High School's. Wayne had a wonderful life, loved the outdoors and boating on the river, ATVing, fishing, bowling, golfing, and many other activities over the years. He was a 4H leader teaching leather craft for years and was on the Cusick School board for several years until he got cancer. Wayne was blessed with many good friends over the years and had a wonderful family. Wayne passed away March 11, 2022. The last few months were not good because of Alzheimer's, he is now at peace with his loved ones that passed before him. There will be a memorial May 14, 2022 at the American Legion in Cusick Washington at 2:00 PM. We will provide the main dish, if you can bring a salad or dessert that would be awesome.
