Verna Simons Steele
October 5, 1928 - March 21, 2022
Verna Simons Steele, born October 5, 1928 daughter of Joseph and Bertha Simons passed away at her home in Elk, Washington, March 21, 2022.
The eleventh of thirteen children, Verna devoted herself to family. She grew up in Chesterfield, Idaho where she met her sweetheart, Keith Steele. They married and formed a large eternal family. Verna was a proud mother of eight, grandmother of thirty-one, great-grandmother of seventy-five, and great-great-grandmother of one. She eagerly supported her family in their church callings and life endeavors, and enjoyed cooking and caring for everyone. She also had an intense love of family history and making sure family stories were shared and never forgotten.
Verna was shaped by the difficult experiences she lived through including the Great Depression and WWII. These difficulties helped her develop strong resolve and determination to accomplish whatever task was placed before her. Verna was a hard worker and found great accomplishment and joy in working at The Sunshine Biscuit Co, Woolworth's and Phillips Department store where she later became the owner and operator of the Deer Park, Oldtown and Ione branches.
Verna loved flowers and gardening and never allowed a difficult plant to stand in her way, thus resulting in her own homegrown Washington Pineapple. She loved horses, her dogs, and the sunshine. She had a love for the theater and found great joy in directing many church plays.
Verna's love for her family was only surpassed by her love and dedication to her Father in Heaven and Savior, Jesus Christ. She faithfully served in church callings throughout her life, and especially enjoyed serving the children in her ward and serving as the Stake Drama director.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am Tuesday, March 29th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Riverside Chapel, 34221 N. Newport Hwy, Chattaroy, Washington. A viewing will be held at the building one hour before the funeral services. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to Kindred Hospice for assistance in caring for Verna.
