Terry Ross Johnson, of Newport, Wash., our beloved husband, father and friend, passed away unexpectedly Nov. 1, 2020, at the age of 72.

Terry was born Aug. 1, 1948, in Bellaire, Ohio, to parents Ross and Mae Johnson. His father was in the U.S. Air Force and the family spent time living in Thomery, France, Marysville, Calif., and Oahu, Hawaii during Terry's childhood.

He lived in northern California as a teenager and graduated from Terra Linda High School in Marin County.

Terry enlisted in the U.S. Army in his early adulthood and spent time in Panama and Vietnam. He reached the rank of Sergeant before beginning his civilian life.

After the military he hired on the Southern Pacific Railroad as a switchman in San Jose, Calif. He then transferred to Southern California to work as a Switchman, Brakeman and Conductor, eventually finishing his 40-year career with the Union Pacific Railroad. His son Tad carries this legacy on as a Locomotive Engineer in Oregon.

Terry met his wife Judy in 1988 and they married on April "Friday the 13," 1990 in Yucaipa, Calif., and they lived in Southern California in San Bernardino for many years, until they found their retirement home in Newport, Wash., where they have enjoyed the last 14 years together.

Terry was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to fish, go on hikes, and just loved to be in the outdoors and working in his yard. He had a love for animals, and fed the deer, turkeys and birds that frequented their property. He was also a huge sports fan, and he loved watching his San Francisco 49ers play football.

Terry is survived by his wife, Judy Johnson; his six children, Michelle Ceresa, Raylene Davis, David Davis, Jennifer Highland, Tad Johnson and Andrew Johnson; as well as his five grandchildren, Brittney Ceresa, Jordan Ceresa, Alex Davis, Natalie Davis and Elizabeth Davis; and two great-grandchildren Clinton and Lila Sifton.

He is preceded in death by his best buddy and companion, his dog Jackrabbit.

What we are going to miss most about Terry is his incredibly witty sense of humor, his practical joking, his "pessimistic Optimism," and "all kidding aside," his unconditional love for his family.

Please raise a good glass of scotch in his honor. As Terry would say, instead of goodbye: "Take off, eh?"
