Obituary

Steven Paul Smith

July 28, 1949 - March 10, 2026

Steve Smith, age 76 passed away in his home surrounded by his wife/high school sweetheart Debbie (Monk) of 56 years, family & friend Chris in Priest River, Idaho.  Steve & Debbie were married in St Anthony's Catholic Church in1969. He leaves behind his wife, daughter Lisa, 2 grandsons Kade & Dylan (Alicia) & 4 great grandchildren Jayden, Briley, Wyatt & Konrad.

Steve was born & attended School in Newport, WA graduating in 1968.  He started working at 14 for the DNR & at 18 worked after school at Shields Lumber Mill.  He also was a member of the Newport Gun Club starting out by setting trap which became one of his passions for 50 yrs.  after graduation he attended college pursuing a degree in law enforcement, but the woods called him back to Newport where he worked for Monk Bros. Logging running various pieces of equipment and on weekends traveling to demoing the roto saw head for Risley Equipment.  He also started buying equipment to work after work & weekends.  Needless to say, he not only worked hard but played hard.

In 1990 Steve & Debbie started their own logging business and eventually developed a rock quarry just outside of Newport. Finally, Debbie talked him into selling & retiring in 2023 .

His biggest passion was hunting with his best friend since 2nd grade Chris Starzman.  He also loved taking his grandsons & great grandsons on some of his hunting adventures.

For all who knew his he will always be remembered for his laugh, honesty and work ethics.

We are inviting all that knew him for a celebration of life at his pride & joy trophy room. Friday April 24, 3-7 pm with food & beverages. Dufort Rd, Priest River (Watch for signs)
