Obituary

After a long and full life, Stella M. Shaw passed away on November 22, 2022 at Bonner General Hospital in Sandpoint, Idaho.

A rosary and vigil will be held Thursday, December 8 at 5:00 pm at St. Catherine

Catholic Church in Priest River, Idaho. A Requiem Mass will be conducted Friday, December 9 at 11:00 a.m. with interment at Evergreen Cemetery followed by a reception at the senior center in Priest River.

Stella was born January 9, 1921 at the old Marcus Flats farmstead near Kettle Falls, Washington to Cora Urhausen (Morris) and Matthias Urhausen. She joined brother John, and sisters Margaret (Hallgreen) and Anne (Gourlie). She was followed by Mike, Matt, Betty (Borowiec), Helen (Worsham), and Bob.

The family moved to Kettle Falls in 1937 because of Grand Coulee Dam.

After leaving school she worked a variety of jobs in Colville, Spokane, Walla Walla, Chicago and

Newport. When working in Newport, she met Ina Shaw (Sorenson) who introduced Stella to her brother Ken Shaw. Stella and Ken were married on April 10, 1950.

Together they farmed Alder Brook Ranch and raised a family. Stella was widowed on April 1, 1980

when Ken died in a logging accident. With the help of her son, Ken and daughter-in-law Kim, she continued to run the ranch. In 2019.

After suffering a serious illness, she moved to The Bridge Assisted Living in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Stella was a past member and officer of the Settlement Grange, the Senior Center, and 4-H. She

enjoyed gardening, cooking, crossword puzzles, reading and her family.

Stella is preceded in death by her husband, Ken, parents, and siblings, John, Margaret, Anne, Mike, Matt and Helen. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Brevik, son Ken Shaw (Kim), brother Bob Urhausen and sister Betty Borowiec. She is also survived by six grandchildren – Ralph, Heather, Shannon, Jeremy, Aaron and Charis. She is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren – Alex, Zoe, Kane, Parker, Olivia, Luella, Augustus, Deacon, Gavin, Addison, Jaxxson, Jonny and Colton.

As well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
