Shirley Jean
Porter
Feb 28, 1935 — Jan 7, 2022
Newport
Shirley Jean Porter passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 7th 2022 at the age of eighty-six. Shirley was preceded in passing by her father, Robert Leon, mother, Vivian (Granny), her brother, Mike, and daughter, Teri. Shirley's memory will last through her brother, Ken, sons John, Robert (Dawn), Mark (Karen), her loving family (given and chosen), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends.
Shirley was born on February 28th 1935 in Mountain Home, Arkansas, and attended Rosemead High in California. She and her family moved from California, eventually settling in Newport, Washington. During her life, Shirley amassed many skills and talents. She worked as a telephone switchboard operator and completed micro welding for NASA, ensuring the safety of our nation's first astronauts. She owned a craft store, and also helped at the museum. Shirley loved the holidays, gardening, and crafting; she was an expert quilter and the family's best baker, generously sharing her wisdom and goods. In addition to a variety of talents, Shirley is remembered for her kindness. She was keenly attentive to the needs and comfort of those around her, and her frequent laughter inspired joy.
Words will never express the greatness of Shirley's life, though we are grateful for her kindness, heart, generosity, and love.
