Ruth R. Chamberlain

Ruth was born on January 21, 1934, to Tom and Margaret Young in Didsbury, Alberta.  The family moved shortly after to Tom's family farm in Virden, Manitoba, where tragically her father died in a farming accident when Ruth was just 18 months old.  Ruth's mom relocated the family to Spokane where she met her second husband Joe Tribe and they moved to his farm in Coolin, ID.  Ruth attended the one room school in Coolin where her mother taught. Her stepfather was a man of great faith, and it was through his influence she became a lifelong Lutheran. Sadly, Ruth lost her loving stepfather when she was in fifth grade and her mother then moved the family to Sandpoint ID where she attended school graduating from Sandpoint High in 1952.

In Sandpoint Ruth met and married her beloved husband Dale on June 15 ^th , 1952. In 1955, Dale was transferred to the Safeway store in Newport where they made their home for over 65 years. Ruth was very active in the American Lutheran church where she taught Sunday school and held a number of church offices. If there was something going on at the church, she was there in attendance. Although she was not a licensed beautician, she volunteered at Newport's long-term care and went weekly for over 10 years and shampooed and curled the women's hair. She loved seeing the joy on their faces after their hair was fixed! She was a founding member of the Newport Garden Club, a member of Study Club and an organizer and avid player of a number of bridge clubs. One of her favorite pastimes was playing cards or games but Bridge was her favorite and she wanted to win! Ruth and Dale spend many summer vacations camping at Luby Bay campground at Priest Lake where they made many friends. After Dale retired, they traveled extensively with trips to Europe and winters in San Diego.  She loved being a grandmother and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Roy Tribe and her husband Dale. She is survived by son Bruce (Becky) grandchildren Lisa (Rod) and Brenda (Jordan) and daughter Cheryl (Howard) Nelson. Grandchildren Scott, Renae (Patrick), and Kyle (Julia). Ruth was also blessed with eight great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held April 30 at 11:00 at the Newport Cemetery.
