Obituary

Rose Mary Shipman, 87, of Newport, Washington, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

Born on July 19, 1937, in Louisville, Kentucky, the fourth of eight children, Rose Mary was the beloved daughter of Thelma and Maril McElfish. She lived a life full of faith, warmth, and family, sharing the love of her Savior with all she knew.

A gifted poet, songwriter, and singer, Rose Mary expressed her spirituality and creativity through music and words. Her voice lifted hearts, and her writing brought comfort and beauty to those around her. Whether singing to her grandchildren or composing verses which she loved to share, Rose Mary carried creativity and spirituality like dual flames, lighting the way for others.

Rose Mary is survived by her dear siblings Dorothy, Barbara, and Raymond; her children Susan Hudson, Lory Shipman, and Vernon Keven Shipman; her son-in-laws Todd Ellingburg and Wayne Hudson; and her cherished grandchildren Brandt, Misty, Shana, Hope, and Hunter.

She will be remembered for her generous spirit, childlike faith, and the deep love she carried for her family. Rose Mary's presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of artistry, kindness, and grace will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. Today, she is face to face with Jesus, just as she always hoped to be.

A memorial service will be held at Manito Park in Spokane, Washington, on Saturday, August 31, 2025. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend and celebrate her life.

"But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint."
— Isaiah 40:31
