Obituary

Roger Stephen Speraw

October 4, 1946 – November 30, 2025

Roger Stephen Speraw, age 79, passed away on November 30, 2025, in Spokane, Washington. He was born on October 4, 1946, in Long Beach, California, to Oliver "Ollie" Wagner Speraw and Ella Marguerite Halicus Speraw.

Roger was raised in Long Beach, California. He later moved to Idaho, where he built a beautiful home and raised his family. He was the proud father of five children.

Roger honorably served in the United States Army Infantry, attaining the rank of Sergeant (E-5) on March 5, 1968. He served during the Vietnam War and was recognized for his bravery and dedication with numerous military honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device (1960), Combat Infantryman Badge (First Award), Air Medal, One Overseas Service Bar, and the Purple Heart.

Roger owned and operated his own painting company and worked diligently well into his later years, continuing to do the work he enjoyed. When he wasn't working, he could often be found building and working with wood, a craft that reflected his skill, patience, and strong work ethic.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver "Ollie" Wagner Speraw and Ella Marguerite Halicus Speraw; his daughter, Megan Speraw (1984–2001); and his sister, Margaret "Peggy Ann" Speraw (1947–1960).

Roger is survived by his children: Sara Grace Sparrow, Jessica Lynn Speraw, Dylan Scott Speraw, and Tyler Shane Speraw; his grandchildren: Emerald (26), Liam (14), Duane (10), Mason (5), and Rylie (4), along with grandchildren through Tyler; and his brothers, Michael Lester Speraw and Daniel Joseph Speraw.

Roger will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his pride in hard work, and his quiet strength. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
