Roger C Enyeart

September 21, 1940 – January 4, 2022

Roger C Enyeart (81) passed away in the late evening of Tuesday

January 4, 2022 at home with the love of his life, Yvonne, by his side. In November they celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Roger was born September 21, 1940 to James A. and Jean (VanHoff) Enyeart in Metaline, WA. He had 6 siblings, 3 children, 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Roger's roots run deep in north Pend Oreille County. His Great-grandparents James (age 31) & Catherine left Nebraska in 1889 and settled and farmed land north of Spokane near elk. In 1907 the whole family moved to the Metaline area. This included 2 of 4 sons, Willard J. and Roger's grandfather Albert C., and their daughter Anna (McKay). Roger's father, James, was also born in Metaline in March 1915 to Albert C. and Bess (Burger), he was a hard rock miner most of his life. The families stayed in the area until their deaths. Roger's mother, Jean VanHoff, was born in the Netherlands in July 1915. She came to America from Holland with her family in 1924, they settled in the Coolin, ID area in 1928 for several years before moving on to Rice, WA. Some of the VanHoffs stayed in the Priest River area and have also married into the Savage family. Roger still has many relatives there. Jean married James in 1935 and she obtained her citizenship in 1943.

Roger grew up on Sullivan Lake Rd and graduated from Ione High School. The childhood home is still owned by family. Before getting up the nerve to talk to her, Roger watched Yvonne as she walked to school. Her parents own the Mercantile on Main Street across from the service station where he was working. She would cut through the lot behind the station. They started dating in 1959 and married in November 1961. Their first son Kelly D. was born in 1962.

Roger worked for a while at the Grandview mine as a hard rock miner, he then worked on the Boundary Dam Project for three days before accepting employment with Lehigh Portland Cement. In September 1964 Von, keeping a calm demeanor, sent Roger off on his first day of work at the cement plant. After he left she called her mother and informed her that she was in labor. She did not want him to lose his job by not showing up!! That night came their second son (Roger) Keith. A couple years later in June 1966 they welcomed the final member to make their family complete, Troy A.

At Lehigh Roger started out as a laborer and he eventually reached the highest pay grade for his position. So, one evening he took Yvonne out to dinner at the Box Canyon Motel Restaurant, explained the situation and proposed an option that would result in an initial 2 level pay cut. Together, like they did everything, they decided to go for it. Through a training program at the plant, they allotted him a couple hours a day at work to study and he became a certified electrician. When Lafarge purchased the plant then 2 years later closed the doors, Roger was able to retire with over 26 years of service.

After Lehigh/Lafarge he held a few different jobs such as drilling, prepping and setting large powerline poles with Gaylen Schaffer and driving dump truck for Bob Dawson. His last job was as an electrician for Teck-Cominco's Pend Oreille Mine north of Metaline Falls, Wa. He retired from there with 10 years of service.

All of his life Roger was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed taking and teaching his boys to hunt and fish. He enjoyed outings with his hunting partner Cliff and sending the boys through the "open" country to flush out something to them. He bagged his fair share of big game and the stories, oh my!! Roger has been on just about every mountaintop in the area. He also loved to spend time on the local lakes fly fishing. When the boys were youngsters he was the hunters ed teacher. Keith said he failed him 3 times just to make him take the class again and help the other kids.

One of his and Von's favorite pastimes together was playing pinnacle. Especially with their best friends Cliff and Karyl Collinge. They would take turns going to each other's homes having lunch or dinner and making a day of it. Their other favorite activity was to venture to a casino at least once a week. More if they were on a hot streak!! But like Yvonne always said, "We can never both be winning at the same time!"

Roger was a hell-uv-a man!! He would give you the shirt off his back. Just keep your promises and be a productive person. He is already sorely missed. At this time there will be no service.

Roger is survived by his wife of 60 years Yvonne M. (Spacek), sons

Maci K. Enyeart. Brothers Jerry Enyeart and Alan Enyeart, sisters

Joanne Ingham and Cathy Enyeart. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Kelly D. (at age 16), brothers James (Jim) Enyeart and Robert (Bob) Enyeart.
