Richard (Dick) Miller entered into eternal peace with our Lord on December 12, 2018.  He passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at home of natural causes at age 75.  Richard was born July 9, 1943 to loving parents, Raymond & Dortha Miller in Los Angeles, California.  He grew up in Fillmore, California, graduating from high school in 1961.  He attended one year at Columbia Christian College in Portland, Oregon.  Richard then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November of 1962 to serve during the Vietnam War.

Richard spent the majority of his professional life working in the woodstove industry.  He was President of Washington Wood Energy Association. and Vice President of Wood Energy Institute West.  He helped with woodstoves in becoming more efficient and healthier for the environment.  Richard was a co-owner of Lopi Woodstoves and the owner of a woodstove distribution company he named WEDCO.  Lastly, he was in ownership with his partner & longtime friend, Flint, of Home Comfort Systems, an HVAC, Fireplace & Hot Tub store in Newport, Washington for several years.

In his retirement years, Richard worked as a sales manager and trainer for Flint at his stores, A-1 Team Inc. Heating and Cooling Solutions in Newport and in the store now at Deer Park.

Richard was active in the Newport Community by serving on the Board of Directors Chamber of Commerce; a board member of Pend Oreille County Planning Board; a board member of Newport City Planning Commission; and most recently was one of a three panel board member for the Board of Equalization.  Throughout the years he was a frequent letter writer in the opinion page of the Newport Miner.

Richard would express fond memories of salmon fishing in Alaska, rafting and climbing up a glacier and his travels to several tropical islands.  He enjoyed the experience of hard rock gold mining in the Trinity Alps of California.  Stories he would tell of the good times he had with family and friends at his 300 acre "Hay Canyon Ranch" he once owned in Washington.  Through his life he was a member of the "The Church of Christ" and so loved the congregation in Sandpoint.

Richard loved outdoor activities such as 4x4ing, camping, boating, and fishing for steelhead on the Snake River.  His favorite past-time and quiet-time was woodworking in his shop and bon fires and barbecues with family and friends.

Richard first met Terri, his future wife of 24 years, in the coastal town of Florence, Oregon in 1990.  Later they eventually moved to Sandpoint, Idaho and were married September 24, 1994.  They shared the same passion to live the country life, so moved to their first property of 30 acres in 1995, Newport, Washington. There they enjoyed the challenge of working and living off the grid for 3 years.

Richard and Terri finally settled to their third and forever home together on 5 acres in 2001 off Spring Valley Rd, Newport.  Throughout the years Richard kept busy, happy, and content at putting in lawns, gardens, landscaping, and turning the woods into a park like setting, along side his wife.  He also worked at chain sawing, the wood splitter, and stacking the wood.  He enjoyed projects in remodeling the home, adding his personal touches.  Richard and Terri would sit on the two-seated swing and enjoy the beauty of their little piece of Paradise.

Richard will be remembered lovingly by his family and friends for his sense of humor and up-beat personality.  He was always getting people to smile and laugh at his goofy antics.  He loved to entertain guests by playing his ukulele and singing humorous songs.  Richard was a most thoughtful, caring, and giving person to family and friends, and to whomever needed a helping hand.  He loved and gave much playful attention to the family's little dogs and cats, who were always on his lap—at once!  He also shared playful attention to the many kittens his wife would foster at home for Pawsitive Outreach (POSNA).  Also, he gave love to an older dog with special needs adopted from Priest River Animal Rescue.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-laws, Gary & Kelly Birch, and Jerry Botts.

He leaves behind his wife, Terri, and stepson Paul; his daughter, Stacy (Eric), son Darren, and daughter Talina (Mike) and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  His sister, Paula, and two nephews and numerous cousins.

Fond memories and love of Richard will always be shared by family and friends and those who got to know him.  He will forever be in our thoughts and dearly missed.

A celebration of Richard's life will be held when his ashes are laid to rest at the Newport Cemetery, Veteran's Section, with full military honors presented, at a later date in the spring.
