Randy Ray Hoisington

On May 30, 2021, Randy Ray Hoisington departed this life at the young age of 73 years old. Randy was born to Donald and Eleanor Hoisington on November 6, 1947, in Newport, Washington. Randy was the oldest of two siblings being a big brother to his younger sister, Ronnie Hoisington (Smith). Growing up on the banks of Davis Creek in the Davis Lake area, Randy enjoyed boyhood adventures through fishing, hunting, and shooting with his uncle Dale whom he loved dearly.

Randy attended Cusick elementary and high schools, graduating from Cusick in 1966. During his later school years, Randy met the love of his life, Cynthia Carstens. After being medically discharged from Coast Guard boot camp, Randy and Cindy were married on November 9, 1968, embarking on a 52-year long marriage. Shortly after being married, Randy and Cindy moved to the Seattle area where Randy worked for the Washington Department of Transportation on a survey crew while the two managed a motel. During their short time in Seattle, Cindy gave birth to their son, Sean, in the University hospital. But homesick, Randy and Cindy quickly moved back to Cusick, and Cindy shortly gave birth to their daughter, Lisa, who was born in the Holy Family Hospital. Randy and Cindy lived out the rest of their lives as part of the Cusick community.

Returning to Cusick, Randy eventually began a career as a land surveyor working until his retirement at James A. Sewell and Associates, Inc., in Newport. Primarily through on-the-job training, Randy achieved the expertise necessary to successfully test for registration as a Professional Land Surveyor. Randy oversaw all survey activities for the firm for most of his career, developing a solid community reputation for accurate and reliable work. Randy eventually became a partner-owner in the firm, working for years alongside his best friend, Eric Eldenburg.

Randy enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping all his life. Randy was a successful elk and deer hunter and loved grouse hunting while doing both. He was a quick draw with a .270 Winchester. He was an excellent fly fisherman and artistic fly tier. Randy was also a meticulous craftsman which can be seen though the construction detail of the masterpiece fireplace in the house he built his family in the Cusick area; and through the many leather, wood and other crafts he created. Randy loved to take his family on vacations and much enjoyed Canada and the Washington and British Columbia coastlines. Randy was a Pepsi-aholic, a chocolate lover and a premium BBQ chef, skilled in cooking the best chicken on the planet.

Randy lost his wife, Cindy, in July of 2020. With a broken heart, Randy missed Cindy every moment of every day until his own death 10 months later. Randy loved his kids and many grand kids and was proud of each of them as he watched them grow. Randy and Cindy made each Christmas and birthday very special.

Randy was preceded in death by his wife Cindy (Carstens) Hoisington. He is survived by his sister Ronnie Smith (Dean) of Ione; his two kids, Sean (Karlina) of Coeur d Alene, Lisa (Jack) of Diamond Lake; grandchildren, Makenzee, Joseph, Elijah, Seth, Silas and Katie. Each of these precious kiddos loved their "Gramps". He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday June 4, 2021, at 2:00 PM at the Newport Cemetery, where Randy will be laid to rest next to his wife Cindy. A community potluck gathering will be held in the Usk Community Hall following the service.
