"Corky" Orville Lyle Miller 88, born in Spearfish, SD, July 29, 1934, passed away March 5, 2023, in Newport,  WA.  He was the first son of Ed and Florence Miller.  He grew up in Dalkena, WA, graduated from Cusick High School and attended one semester at Washington State College. He was a good Dad, husband, brother, grandpa and friend to all and will be greatly missed. He had a great sense of humor and was always willing to give people a helping hand.

He started his work career in a flower shop in the Spokane Valley. Then went on to a short stint as ambulance driver and worked at two different funeral homes. At 22 years old he started his saw mill career that would last up until his retirement at 66. He worked at the Ione sawmill as Head Sawyer for many years.  He worked mills in Colorado, Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. He was a general Handyman in between sawmill layoffs doing carpentry, wood working, logging and even a try at being a Greyhound bus driver.

His hobbies included getting firewood and always searching for the best tree. He loved working in his wood shop and building things that we all still have today. He loved picking huckleberries and huckleberry milkshakes.  He loved flowers, especially roses.  He loved just taking a drive to "blow the stink off."  He loved his ice cream. He loved his bulldog Brutus.

His wife Ruth, of 63 years of marriage, preceded him in death. He is survived by his five children: Carey (Danny) Smith, Mark Miller, Tom (Paula) Miller, Jay (Lucie) Miller, Scott (Shallan) Miller and his brother Larry Miller. There are 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and 7 nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 25, at noon, at the Newport Cemetery. Following the graveside service there will be a luncheon with video and pictures and fellowship at The Golden China Restaurant, all are welcome. Sherman- Campbell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
