Obituary

July 23rd 2023, one day after his 81st birthday, Nevada Lee Sample passed away peacefully at River Mountain Advanced Care in Newport Washington. He was born in Spokane Washington on July 22nd 1942 to Cleve and Audney Sample.

He grew up in Cusick and graduated from Cusick High School in 1960.  After high school, he attended Seattle University where he graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.  In 1967 he obtained his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California.

He worked in the tech and emerging computer industry throughout his working years. Working for NASA at Cape Canaveral on some space projects was a highlight of his career.  For a time, he worked with the Atomic Energy Commission in Nevada. He also designed some of the first printers for computers.

He spent 2 years living and working in Germany with companies such as Mercedes Benz.  While living in Germany he traveled and spent time researching the family genealogy.  He loved family history and compiled quite a collection of photos and stories.

He retired at 60 and spent time in Chile finally settling in the Spokane area.  Nevada traveled the world and had many stories and much knowledge to share.

During his retirement, he spent time volunteering at Greenacres Elementary.  He will always be remembered by his nieces, great nieces and great nephews for having a book or toy anytime he would visit.  He was such a blessing to so many people.  He was always happy, optimistic, and a mentor to many.  Nevada's legacy will live on through the memories and the lives that he touched.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Cleve and Audney Sample, and his brother David.  He is survived by brother, Dan Sample of Cusick, his brother Joe and wife Lola Sample of Mead, his nieces Tammie Sample of Spokane, Cheryl Sample-Reese and husband Gary of Cusick and Becky Walrath and husband Ray of Usk and many great nieces and nephews and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends!

Please join us for a gathering of family and friends for a memorial service followed by a potluck on August 26th, 2023, at 11 am at the Usk Community Hall, 902 Black Rd, Usk, WA 99119.
