Moira Marguerite Hemphill (84) of Newport WA passed away February 18, 2025, at River
Mountain Village Advance Care.
Moira was born March 14, 1940, in Johannesburg South Africa where she spent her youth and
becoming a Registered Nurse. In 1965 she met a man and moved to the United States. While
raising two boys and being involved with her stepson and two stepdaughters traveled
extensively throughout the world landing in Idaho.
In 1985 Moira divorced and started another phase in her life. She lived in Idaho, California, New
Mexico, then found her home in Washington. She worked several jobs finding her purpose in life
and the career she loved. She worked jobs with the community action council and eventually
with CASA (Court appointed Special Advocates for children involved in family court issues). She
continued as a CASA volunteer and subsequently the CASA Director For Pend Oreille County.
She was passionate about supporting and encouraging children and young people. Moria was
a member of Soroptimist International of Newport and was associated with the Newport
Hospitality House for many years.
Moira is survived by her brother, two sons, three stepchildren, and several grandchildren. All
she loved with all her heart. There will be no services at this time.
