Michael Taylor Powell was born on September 30, 1931 in Sioux City, Iowa. At the tender age of 2 days, he was taken home to Harry and Esther Powell and formally adopted by them. He lived in Primghar, Iowa for the next 18 years, graduating in 1950. He then joined the Army-Air Force, where he spent the next 22 years.

He served in Europe, Korea, and traveled via Air Force to other countries as well. At home, he joined the missile squadron, taking training at Lowry Air Force Base (now closed) in Denver, Colorado. He was then assigned to Fairchild Air Force Base, opening and closing the Atlas Missile Squadron, moving on to Grand Forks Dakota and then to Great Falls, Montana, where he retired in September 1972.

Mike loved people, always had a good word, and a friendly smile. He loved his country home, hunting, fishing and just watching the wildlife in his front yard. The wild turkeys were his only complaint, as they would eat the bird seed that he put out for the smaller birds and the fact that the turkeys seemed to always be on the porch.

Mike met and married Mary Ann in Sioux City, while serving there. They met in May, courted through the summer and married in September of 1958. Their marriage lasted for 66 years. Mike had two children from a previous marriage, Michael David Powell (Robin) both deceased and Kathleen Kim Bearden (Teddy). Mike and Mary also had two children, Mary JoAnn (deceased) and Gregory Scott (Joni).

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, his son Greg, 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 7 great great-grandchildren. Sisters Margaret (Margie) and Beveryly, several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Blanchard Grange on Saturday May 17th, 2025 at 1PM.
