It is with saddened hearts that we share the passing of Michael Miranda of Oldtown, ID, formerly of Kona, Hawaii. Michael was born November 13, 1947, and left us June 9, 2023. He will be greatly missed.

Michael graduated from St. Joseph High School in Hilo, Hawaii in 1965 then enlisted in the US Air Force. After completing aircraft technical school he flew missions in England and Europe. Later, while stationed in the Philippines as a C-130 crew chief he spent most of his tour flying missions in Vietnam. After discharge, he returned to Kona, Hawaii. He later opened a remote control hobby shop, Hobby-Tronics. His children, Eric and Michele, helped him in the shop, as did his wife, Sandy. He retired from Hawaiian Airlines in 2011.

In Kona Michael enjoyed marlin, mahi-mahi and ahi fishing on his boat. From a young age, he loved aviation and building things. He began with control line planes and progressed to remote control (RC) planes, helicopters, cars and boats. He was a charter member of the Kona RC Flyers. He planned and attended many RC events all over the country. He was also involved in many civic organizations in Kona.

Michael and Sandy met in Spokane, WA, and were married in 1990. They spent 20 years in Hawaii and, after retirement, relocated to Oldtown, ID, where they built their home. They loved to travel and were fortunate to explore the U.S. extensively as well as many foreign countries. Michael loved Hawaii and also learned to love Idaho. He even enjoyed snow plowing with his big yellow tractor. His mainland family and grandchildren brought him much joy and many new experiences. He continued his flying events. Michael loved "talking story," and had many to share. He loved people and traveled to meet family members, some of whom the rest of his family had never met. Michael was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Michael was the eldest of ten children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mabel (Rezentes) Miranda, and two siblings, infant Gregory and his youngest brother, Stephen, who was killed in an AWACS aircraft crash in 1995. He leaves behind his loving wife of 32 years, Sandra, son Eric (Kainoa) Miranda, daughter Michele (Sal, Jr.) Agbayani, his mainland family Brian (Carlyn) Barton, Amy (Russell) Walker, and Jan (Bill) Slade. He is also survived by his brothers Gerard (Lisa) Miranda, Paul Miranda, Jim (Karen) Miranda and sisters Christine McLaughlin, Monica Rider, Marietta Martinez, MaryAnn (Paul) Souza, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He loved and cherished his nine grandchildren Jason (Hannah) Slade, Janessa (Aaron) Adams, Allyson and Bradyn Barton, Manda and Melissa Walker, Jaedyn Agbayani, Kody and Hayzden Miranda, three great-grands Jameson, Stryker and Kyber Marie Slade.

Michael truly enriched our lives and left a legacy of love and adventure.

His services will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Newport, WA, on June 26 at 10:00 a.m. Burial services will be held at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, WA, on June 28 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers donations to a Veterans or Dementia support organization would be appreciated.
