On October 3, Mert Westover passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family. Mert was born in Malta, MT on September 11, 1936 to John and Johanna Moberg.  At 10 days old Mert moved to Priest River with her Grandparents.  She spent her early childhood years living on the peninsula surrounded by Aunts, Uncles and cousins.  Mert graduated from Priest River High School in 1954.  In January 1956 she married William (Bill) Westover.   Mert was a lifelong resident of Priest River and enjoyed being involved in her community.  She belonged to the Royal Neighbors of America, the Lioness and served as a 4-H leader.  She was an active homemaker raising 4 daughters.  When the girls began graduating from high school Mert started working at Key Tronic in Newport, WA.  After Key Tronic closed Mert went to work at the Priest River Senior Center.  In 1998 she started work as a librarian for West Bonner Library District in Priest River.  She retired from the library in 2018 at the young age of 82 years. Mert is survived by her husband, Bill of Priest River, her children Linda (Jon) Cooke of Cocolalla, ID; Vicki Watson (John) of Sun City, AZ; Tina (Randy) Brackelsberg of Spokane Valley, WA and Kim (Ralph) McIsaac of Spokane, WA.  She was blessed with eight grandchildren: Courtney Connolly, Casey Calbert, Jeremy Cooke, Eric Cooke, Cameron Watson, Lindsey McIsaac, Tianna Brackelsberg and Carly McIsaac.  She was also blessed with five great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024 at 11:00 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River.
