Lois M. Neil, 84
Lois M. Neil entered into rest on Tuesday, July 26, 2022.
Lois was born January 4, 1938 to Roy & Ruth Fackenthal Smelcer in Deer Park, WA, the
youngest of three children.
She married Lyle Neil at the age of 17 and they started their family after she graduated from
Priest River High School. She was a stay at home Mom until she started working at the Priest
River Post Office in 1965, until she retired in 1995. Before they retired, Lois and her husband
enjoyed traveling in their RV and camping with friends and family.
After retiring, Lois and her husband started going to Yuma, AZ, they then purchased a residence
there to spend their winters, going back and forth in their RV to see sights and visit friends along
the way. She also enjoyed doing crafts and scrapbooking after she retired.
Her husband passed away in May of 2002, and she would then take her Mom to Yuma with her
for the winters.
Lois met Hurb Wagoner the year her Mom and son passed away and they were together ever
since. Hurb loves to fish and so they would have many fish fries for their friends and family, both
in Yuma and Priest River.
Lois is preceded in death by her husband Lyle Neil, son Danny Neil, and sister Joanne Smelcer
Gumlaw. She is survived by her daughter Teri Hilderbrand (Jim), son Douglas Neil (Autumn),
brother Dale Smelcer (LaDessa), and brother in Law Joe Gumlaw (husband to Joanne). She is
also survived by 8 grandchildren, Brian Neil, Nick Neil, Shauna Sullivan, Keri Nei Gollnick,
Teresa Grove, Jeff Carlson, Mike Hilderbrand and Rick Hilderbrand, along with numerous great
grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews, and her companion, Hurb
