Leland was born in Lander, Wyoming on July 13, 1954 to Stanley Hereford and Patricia Evelynn Mann Hereford Maupin. The eldest
of four children, his birth was followed by sisters: Delsey Anna Hereford Tucker and Joetta Lynn Hereford Adams along with
brother Lowdell Jagade Hereford.(deceased) The family moved to Pend Oreille County in 1962 where his father worked at Boundary
Dam. Leland attended Selkirk School District until 1972 when he entered the Army National Guard where he served 3 years. Leland
also worked at the Pend O' Reille Mine in Metaline Falls before moving on to Louisiana Lumber Mill in Ione. June 1st, 1972 he
married Christina Gurske. They were married 4 years and had 2 daughters: Valeina Rhenae Hereford born October 21, 1972 and Naomi
Churee Hereford was born July 16, 1974. Leland was blessed with another daughter in 1979. Unfortunately, her time here was short
as she passed away from natural causes at 2 months old. Leland lived in Spokane and surrounding area until 1997 when he would
go to stay with his daughter Valeina before returning to Ione in 2000 to spend the rest of his life with his mother Patricia.
Leland battled silently with health problems for 2 plus years before passing away from cancer and other natural causes on
September 26, 2022.
Leland is survived by his mother Patricia Maupin,
2 sisters, Delsey Anna Tucker and Joetta Lynn Adams,
2 daughters, Valeina Rhenae Hereford and Naomi Churee Hereford,
6 grandchildren, Cody, Christina, Odessa, Dustin, Kyle and Sophia
8 great-grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews.
Services will be held graveside at the Ione cemetery on October 13, 2022 at 1 pm
with food to follow.
