Kevin Gordon Bergstrom passed April 3, 2024 in Newport, WA of natural causes. He was delivered by his grandmother, Lucille Bergstrom, at Othello Community Hospital on March 25, 1974. Kevin spent his school years attending Basin City Elementary and Connell High School where he was known as Bulldozer for the way he helped move the offensive line. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and spent hours roaming the Hanford Reach. After he shot his first deer, a hunter on a horse stopped by to offer to carry it back to the gate on the horse. Kevin said "no, that's ok, my dad will be along in a bit to help me drag it." That was a hard lesson. After graduation, Kevin ran the family farm with his Dad until they decided that to support both families, they'd either have to take on debt to double in size or get swallowed up by the changing economics of big farming. They sold their farm and moved to Newport, WA, where Kevin worked for Albeni Falls Building Supply. He enjoyed helping customers and giving advice, as well as giving co-workers rides home when the weather was bad. He will always be remembered for how he used his size and bravery to stick up for the little guy. Kevin volunteered with the Newport Rodeo and served on the board for several years. He was happy to be down in the chutes handling stock and helping the competitors to have good, safe rides. He also enjoyed heading out with his friends and the Jeep club to explore backcountry trails and test how far he could take his Wrangler. His favorite activity was going to gun shows with his friends and finding deals at the end of the show. Kevin would show up at his neighbor's range with a new gun, a box of ammo, and urge them that they just had to shoot it because it was such a fun gun. He was learning to reload from his friend Bill and has passed his supplies on to his friends to keep the craft alive. Kevin lived alone, but loved his dog Patches with all his heart. Patches went everywhere with Kevin and was always waiting when he got home. She was a friendly dog and loved visiting his parents' house for treats. She would be "their dog" for a while, but always waited by the window to hear his truck down the road. When Patches passed, Kevin felt lost without her. A year later, Kevin saw a story from Priest River Animal Shelter about a difficult rescue dog. The dog was skittish around people and at risk of being put down. Kevin inquired and immediately bonded with Watson. Watson wasn't a social dog with anyone else, but he loved Kevin. Kevin's phone was filled with pictures of Watson just being a dog. He was a faithful dog and stayed by Kevin's side, guarding him and their home until the end. Kevin is survived by his parents, Ken and Linda Bergstrom, and older brother Gregg Bergstrom. In lieu of flowers, please make donations or volunteer some time with Priest River Animal Shelter. They were an important influence in Kevin's world and he would really appreciate his friends giving their time to help animals there. A celebration of life is being held at Kelly's Bar and Grill in Newport, WA on June 15 at 4:00 on the patio.
