Kathryn Hiebert, age 102

Kathryn (Peters) Hiebert (May 31, 1921 – Nov. 21, 2023) was born in Quincy, WA. As a child, the family moved to rural Deer Park, WA. Kathryn married the love of her life, Gus Hiebert, at the age of 17 and lived the rest of her life on the farm on Tweedie Road in Spring Valley. Gus and Kathryn were married 62 years before Gus passed away at age 90 in 2001. Kathryn's faith was very important to her, having received Jesus Christ as her Savior at a very young age. She was a lifelong member of Spring Valley Mennonite Church where she taught Sunday School and worked with Ladies' Aid, always ready to bring food for potlucks and host missionaries and visitors in her home. Gus and Kathryn were blessed with 6 children – Sylvia, Jim, Delores, Ron, Helen, and Larry. Delores developed chicken pox complicated by encephalitis at age one, becoming an invalid who required complete care for the rest of her (46) year life. Life on the farm was busy – cooking and laundry for the family, feeding hay crews, boarders and many visitors. She always had a huge garden which included many flowers, and a strawberry patch. They raised cattle, pigs, chickens, and rabbits.

Kathryn was the epitome of compassion, patience, and love for family and friends. We all admired her dedication and perseverance in caring for Delores plus new babies and daily farm chores through both good times and very hard times.

Surviving Kathryn are her children – Sylvia (Leo) Epp, Jim (Doris) Hiebert, Ron (Terresa) Hiebert, Helen (Larry) Everson, Larry (Jackie) Hiebert, 25 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband Gus, daughter Delores, parents and all her siblings.

We are planning a memorial service for Kathryn on the weekend after Memorial Day in May on the farm house lawn. Her birthday, May 31, will be a celebration of her life.
