Kathleen Mae (Mandigo) Whitehouse Born on 11/28/1934 to David and Julia Mandigo in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Died 1/18/2024 at the age of 89, in the home of her youngest son Jerry Whitehouse in Newport Washington of natural causes. She is preceded in death by her daughter Connie Whitehouse, Her Mom and Dad, David and Julia Mandigo, 2 brothers David Mandigo and Russ Mandigo, 2 sisters Marie Chadwick and June Larson Ponther, and most recently Her husband Alvin Whitehouse in December of 2020. She is survived by her sister, Rose Ann Wood of Vernon B.C and brother Wallace Mandigo of College Place Washington. 4 children Julie Hoppis (Gene, Deceased)) of Yakima WA, Jann Whitehouse (Jerry Spaulding of Gaston OR, Jeff Whitehouse of Newport and Jerry Whitehouse (Laura Marie) of Newport. 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandkids. In 1942 Kathy's Father moved the family from Berrien Springs Michigan to Clark Fork Idaho looking for work and a better life for his family. In 1945 they bought "The Ranch" behind Freeman Lake. Kathy and her siblings went to school in North Idaho and Newport Washington. Kathy went on to Kinman Business College in Spokane. In 1956 she met and married the love of her life Alvin Whitehouse in Newport. After moving around some, they settled close to Hillsboro Oregon where they raised their 4 children. In 1975 Alvin and Kathy moved their family back to "The Ranch" in Oldtown where Alvin built their forever home with the help of their 2 sons. While living in Oregon Kathy worked baking bread for the high school down the road. After moving back to Oldtown she worked at Doctor Andreason's Office before retiring. She loved to knit and crochet and made quilts and afghans for all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many more. After retiring Kathy and Alvin were able to do some traveling. They went to various places around the world. Kathy and Alvin were married up until his death in December of 2020 at the age of 94. Anyone who knew Kathy heard her stories on her world travels and the stories of the bears in her house. After Alvin died Kathy went to stay at her oldest daughter Julie's house for some time. In the fall of 2022, she went to stay with Tricia and Elaine Mandigo and then to her youngest son Jerry's house where she passed. Kathy passed peacefully in her sleep under Hospice care. Her family would like to thank Mary, Kelly, Kim and Crystal from Hospice for their loving care of Mom. We would like to encourage anyone who would like to make donations in Kathy's Name to Hospice of Spokane for their excellent program of helping families prepare for end of life. A celebration of Life will be held in the spring at the Sherman-Campbell Funeral Home in Newport WA. They are in charge of arrangements.
