Katherine Louise (Beal) Brown (70) was born October 4, 1951 and entered into the presence of God October 6, 2021.

The daughter of John C. and Beverly A. (Timmers) Beal, Kathy attended schools in Spanaway, and Spokane Washington, graduating from Mead High School in 1970.

After high school, Kathy attended Spokane Falls Community College where another student who graduated from high school with her caught her attention. Kathy boldly walked up to him and told him he was going to teach her to ski. Three dates later, Steven A. Brown proposed, and they were married September 29, 1973. And yes, Steve taught her how to ski. They built a life together and raised two sons, Keven (Kasey) Brown, Cusick, and Eric (Robin) Brown, Tonasket. Both brought great joy to Kathy and she was always ready to share her motherly advice with them..

Additionally, Kathy was blessed with 5 grandchildren: Kristian, Baylee, Rylee, Jamison and Dawson.

Later on, Kathy returned to campus life and learning, earning a second AA degree from Spokane Community College, her Master Gardner's Certification, and, finally, a Bachelor of Science degree from Gonzaga University in 1994.

Not one to let moss grow under her feet, Kathy enjoyed weekly Bible studies and worship with members of Gentle Shepherd Ministries, traveling, inviting foreign exchange students into her home and life, visiting the ocean, snowmobiling and 4-wheeling, scuba diving, spinning her own yarn she then turned into crocheted marvels, quilt making, listening to music, attending Mead Class of 70 gatherings and reunion meetings, along with on-going conversations with her online video game friends all over the world.

Kathy was well known for her love of the Lord, fair winning apple pies, Christmas tree bread, maintaining order on her school bus, driving students to sporting events, family Christmas cookie baking days, beautiful floral arrangements, her love of animals, as a first aid/CPR instructor, and her devotion, unshakeable love and support for her sweetheart, Steve. Oh, and lest we forget, of course, her opinions! "Let's go, Brandon!"

When Kathy and Steve settled in Cusick, both were drawn to the needs of rural Pend Orielle County and soon found themselves involved in the Pend Orielle District 4 Volunteer Firefighter program. Not one to stand on the sidelines and look in, Kathy was soon totally involved in multiple aspects in POFD 4. During her years with the department, Kathy was an engineer, EMT, EMT trainer, EMT train-the-trainer, CPR/First Aid instructor, Assistant Medical Officer and rose to the rank of Lieutenant

During those same years, Kathy became involved in the local fair, first as a participant (Oh, those apple pies!) and then as a fair board member and a judge.

As tributes have poured in over the past several days, what rises to the top was Kathy's kindness, willingness to help, love of life and devotion to her Steve. She will be greatly missed.

Kathy is survived by her husband Steve, mother Beverly Beal, her 2 sons and 5 grandchildren, sisters Marjie (Bill) Castle, Mary Sue Beal and Jackie (Scott) Conley, multiple nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.    Matthew 5:4 A celebration of Kathy's life will be held Saturday, November 6, 2021, 1 p.m. at Dalkena Church (425961 SR-20, Newport, Washington [milepost 426]).  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kathy's name to:
