Obituary

Karl D McKenzie (Age 85)

Karl lived in Metaline, Washington for over 70 years.  He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on February 21, 2022.  He was born in Kalispel, Montana to David & Marie McKenzie on September 23, 1936.

He was hard working and successful in his work.  In his younger days, he held multiple jobs driving school bus, town maintenance man and marshal during the day then running his motel and RV Park at night. He was also the Deputy Sheriff.  In his later years, he worked at Lehigh/Lafarge where he retired as Plant Manager. After his retirement, his greatest joy was caring for his son, Stevie McKenzie.

Community service was important to Karl.  He served on the Metaline Town Council, Volunteer Fire Dept, Mayor of Metaline, County Commissioner, Special Olympics, and many other organizations.   His most notable contributions were the development of the Metaline Town Park and the North Pend Oreille Scenic Byway.

Karl was a loving, proud, and supportive family man.  His immediate and extended family were his priority.  He was preceded in death by his Loving Wife, Yvonne McKenzie and Son, Stevie McKenzie.  He is survived by his 3 children and 6 grandchildren.

Karl's porch was a popular gathering spot in Metaline.  Many friendships were made, and old friendships renewed.  And, he was known for beautiful ice trees in winter time.

The memorial service will be 1:00 pm, April 16, 2022 at the Congregational Church in Metaline Falls with a potluck following at the American Legion.

Sherman-Campbell Funeral & Cremation Services in Newport is in charge of arrangements.  Family and friends are invited to sign the online guest book at shermancampbell.com
