John C. Wittenmyer (aka J Dub/Mr. Kentucky) passed
away at his home in Ione, Washington on Thursday,
September 15th, 2022 at the age of 85. John was
preceded by his younger brother Bill, Mother and
Father Clara and Henry, and is survived by his elder
sister, Florence. John is also survived by his wife Judy
McLaughlin, their son Eric Wittenmyer, and his
ex-wife, Linda, as well their children Gordon
Wittenmyer, Jeff Wittenmyer, and Kim Langone. He is
fondly remembered by his grandchildren Spencer and
Lauren, Julie, and Matthew and Kayla. Stories of the
past are also remembered by his step-children Shaun McLaughlin, Kathryn Liptrap, and Frank
McLaughlin as well as step-grandchildren John Michael and Skyler.
Retired from United Parcel Service in 1988, memories of him ripple out into the communities in which he
was once of service and leadership. His retirement was spent driving school bus for Selkirk School
District, fostering community (BS-ing friends), building garages, and admiring photos of his loved ones
(Reminisce Magazine's got nothing on him). He restored classic tractors, used his hands to work on
never ending projects around the property, drove that little red truck wherever he could, and relished his
time listening to sacred gospel music, his connection to God-Source.
A public memorial will be held for the widow and his family on their property:
Saturday, September 24th, 2022 at 2pm
Wear your best overalls and flannel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that John's memory is honored via a donation to the Special
Olympics. Please, come ready to share stories and laughter as well as any food or libation (and a lawn
chair) you would like to consume with your mutual friends/his loved ones.
