John R. Schulte was born on February 7, 1963, to John H.
Schulte and Cleo M. Mueller. John grew up in Downey, CA
where he attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help grammar
school and St. John Bosco HS. He studied engineering at UC
Irvine and received his B.S. at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical
University. He served in the US Air Force for seven years
where he was an air traffic controller, and then later worked
for the FAA in the San Francisco area until 2014.

Johnny moved to Lake Tahoe, CA where he volunteered for
the National Ski Patrol at Squaw Valley. He opened his
home, Chateau Schulte, to all he knew. In 2019, Johnny and
his wife Alix moved to a small community on the Pend Oreille River near Sandpoint, ID. They
began remodeling their waterfront home as the next Chateau Schulte, so that it could welcome
even more friends. During the winter months, Johnny worked at the local ski mountain as a
guide with Selkirk Powder Guides and helping with ski patrol duties.
Johnny's greatest desire, and gift to all who knew him, was to be remembered for living in the
moment. He fulfilled his dream of sailing his 38' boat Amistad from San Francisco to the Sea of
Cortez Mexico in 2017, where he and Alix spent months discovering new places and new
friends. They made the trip every year until he sold Amistad in 2022.

Johnny was taken from us on June 28, 2022. He is survived by his wife, Alix; his daughter, Ali; his
stepdaughters Beatrice, Mehret, and Clara; and his siblings, Dan, Jean, Lori, and Jeff. We will
always remember his generosity, his ever-present smile, his love of music, and especially for
teaching us all to seize the day.
