John Edward
Krogh
Jun 10, 1936 — Jun 22, 2021
On Monday June 21st 2021, John Edward Krogh passed away peacefully at the Hospice House of Spokane, he was 85. John was born June 10th, 1936 at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane WA to Harry and Ruth Krogh.
John is reunited in rest with his wife of 53 years, Janice Jean Krogh, his beloved grandson Dylan Frederick Krogh, his parents Harry and Ruth Krogh, brother Jim Krogh, brother-in-law, Maurice McDonald and nephew Tim McDonald. John is survived by his wife Johnnie Ragsdale Krogh, sons Todd (Julie) Krogh and Christopher Krogh, sister, Bonnie McDonald, grandchildren Ashley (Zach), Kaitlin, Mackenzie (Riley), Austin (Mary), Sydney (Payton) and Benjamin. Greatgrandchildren, Lily, Hanna and Vivienne.
John graduated from Newport High School in 1954 and went on to graduate with a degree in Agricultural Economics at Washington State College (WSU). John boxed and played football in high school and continued to box in college. He was also a Navy Reservist. John met his wife Janice at the Diamond Shores Dancehall at Diamond Lake. His best friend, Marty Wold was there when John first laid eyes upon Janice at that dancehall and quotes John as saying "I'm going to marry that girl". He was right, they were married in 1958 and a few years later they welcomed their sons Christopher and Todd. John worked for Western Farmers Company in Sunnyside WA and Walla Walla WA and later in Post Falls ID. John and Janice returned to Newport in 1965 to work alongside his parents on the family cattle ranch near Sacheen Lake and they were owners of the Newport Feed Store. John was a Pend Oreille County Commissioner (D) for 2 terms in the 70's and ran for State Senate losing narrowly to the incumbent. John was an active member of the Democratic Party, hosting events which included guests Governor Christine Gregorie and US Senator, Maria Cantwell. John was also active with the Cattleman's Association of Washington and served as President.
John was remarried in 2012 to Johnnie Ragsdale. He and Johnnie built a new home together next to the family ranch where they enjoyed sitting on the porch swing and spending time with their grandchildren. Papa, as his grandchildren called him, continued to be the "boss" of Krogh Ranch until his death. Papa always had a pocket full of candy, played a mean game of go fish and loved his grandkids beyond measure.
A private family gathering will take place in his honor to celebrate the extraordinary life of John Edward Krogh. Our family would like to thank the nurses, therapists, social workers and physicians at Hospice of Spokane and Newport Hospital and Health Services that guided us and cared for John so that we could just be family.
