INGHAM, Joanne Jean

Joanne passed away peacefully on February 19, 2022.  Joanne was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who will be tremendously missed by all.  She will always be remembered for her love of family, sharp wit, infectious laugh, generosity, and never being shy about saying exactly what was on her mind.

Joanne was born May 13, 1936 in Colville, Washington, the first child of James A. Enyeart and Jean Enyeart (Van Hoff).  Joanne lived the first few months of her life in Rice, WA before the family moved to Coupeville, WA, which was followed by a move to Metaline, WA.  It was in Metaline that the family lived in an old pool hall and Joanne attended first and second grade in a one room schoolhouse.   The family then briefly moved to Everett, WA while her father worked in the Bremerton shipyards, before returning to Pend Oreille County, living in Ione.  Joanne started third grade in Ione and continued her education there until the family moved back to Everett in 1953, where Joanne attended Everett High School.

It was in Everett that Joanne met the love of her life, Ron Ingham, in October of 1953.  They were married on October 8, 1954.  Ron joined the United States Air Force in April of 1955, and he was at basic training when they welcomed their first child, Elizabeth.  The family lived in Amarillo, Texas while Ron was in school for the Air Force.  In the fall of 1955, Ron was transferred to Spokane, Washington where sons Ronald Jr. and David were born.  Following Ron's discharge from the Air Force in 1959, the family moved to Springfield, Oregon for a year before finally settling in Ione, where Joanne and Ron happily lived the rest of their lives.  Joanne and Ron's two youngest children, daughter Lynne and son Brett were born while they lived in Ione.

Joanne held various jobs over the years, including working six years at the Hang-out Café in Metaline Falls, nine years at Ione's Supermarket, and three years at the Ione Variety and Liquor Store.  She also volunteered as a 911 operator.  Her outgoing personality led her to make many friends at work and in the community.  She always enjoyed hearing how her friends and their families were doing and what they were up to.   Joanne had many interests.  She loved to read a broad range of books and would often read as many as 3 or 4 a week.  She loved to spend time outside in the yard (in spite of her allergies) and for many years enjoyed gardening and growing flowers.  She also enjoyed doing handicrafts and sewing.  Joanne and Ron preferred to spend most of their time at home, but they also enjoyed many visits to the Oregon Coast and several trips to Alaska.

In her later years, Joanne suffered from several medical ailments, but she never complained.  She was incredibly tough and resilient.  Her standard reply whenever she was asked how she was feeling was "I'm fine" regardless of how she felt.  She never wanted anyone to worry about her.

Joanne was preceded in death by her husband of over 66 years, Ronald, her son Brett, grandson Evan, and brothers James Enyeart, Robert Enyeart, and Roger Enyeart.  She is survived by brothers Jerry Enyeart and Alan Enyeart, and sister Cathy Enyeart, daughter Elizabeth Field (Dudley), son Ronald Jr., son David (Hong), daughter Lynne Gardiner (Mike), daughter in-law Stacie Amasaki, 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

At Joanne's request, there will be no memorial service.  There will be a celebration of Joanne and Ron's life at a future date.
