September 19, 1930 ~ October 25, 2021
Joanne Louise Fristad 91, of Tiger, WA, passed away October 25th, 2021 at Tiger, Washington.
A graveside ceremony will be held at 11:00 am Friday November 5th, 2021 at the Ione Riverside Cemetery, Ione, WA.
Where do we start with describing the life of Joanne Louise Fristad, whom we lost on October 25, 2021 at the age of 91, and how do you celebrate a woman's life in a few brief words? The answer is simple, as she lived her life, we just embark. She was born in Mill City, Oregon on September 19, 1930 as the fifth of nine children of Elmer and Frieda Brown. She was the beloved sister of Raymond, Delbert, Edna, Harold, Nora, Mildred, Jimmy and Kenneth. All except for Mildred preceded her in death.
She will be remembered by her children as a sparkling and burning light who illumined, inspired, and guided her family to lead lives as joy-filled and giving as hers. Her infectious ebullience, curiosity, enthusiasm, and love nourished and guided us all. Deeply Christian, she showed us what we could be, how we could give, and what a well-lived life was.
Her proudest achievement was her role as a mother to five fortunate and grateful children, grandmother to 26, great-grandmother to 23, and great-great-grandmother to one. She gave birth to Barbara (Dury), Bonnie (Evans), Vernon Jones, Geraldine (Almquist) and Robin (May), cherished all those grandchildren, being graced with her first two only a month apart - Kenny and Brandy, at her then age of 45, less than half of her eventual age. All those other descendants followed in rapid succession.
Following a childhood of growing up in several different family homes, she married Clarence Jones, gave birth to their five children, and worked to provide for them as Clarence studied medicine for 12 of their years. Finding herself single again in the 1970's, she eventually married Ronald (Ron) Fristad. They lived happily together for 27 years at Tiger, WA, until she was preceded in death by the loss of her beloved Ron in 2017.
In her early adult years, she worked as a Hospital Ward Secretary and received an award for such. She then became a Nurse's Aide. Most important to her was her contribution to her Christian faith. She was a very ambitious voluntary leader of the Seventh Day Adventist Pathfinders youth and adventure clubs in Washington State and in Virginia. Later, she was a waitress at restaurants in Ione, WA and as a Caregiver in North Pend Oreille County.
What a creative and talented person she was, and such a giver. She was constantly creating hand-crafted gifts for those she loved. Whenever family got together, she worked tirelessly to make such times the greatest of celebrations with her amazing planning, preparation and cooking. The abundance of her giving to others were manifestations of her pure and loving heart. She served as a member of the Women's Auxiliary (Doctor's wives) and the Red Hat Society clubs.
Her spirit of adventure led her to see the world such as on her way to and from India to visit family there. She was unafraid of traveling cross country, just herself and her children, including car trips coast to coast, and driving from the Pacific Northwest to Mexico in the early 60's with just one small child along. In the 70's she owned her own motorhome and traveled the country.
Her energy and spirit will live on in us, and we will forever be grateful for her presence in our lives. She made the world an immeasurably better place for her having been here.
