Priest River

Obituary

Jim Edward Mateer was born in 1958 in Warwick, Rhode Island, and took his final breath on August 15th, 2021 in Priest River, ID where he'd found his own piece of Heaven on Earth. He was surrounded by his loving wife, children and friends and passed peacefully into the arms of our Heavenly Father.
He was a husband, father, grandfather, a best friend to many. A Jack of all trades if you will. He was an explorer, hiker, mountain climber. He was a Marine, instructor in mountain climbing and skiing, search and rescue, and avalanche prevention. He was a logger, then a computer nerd. He was a mechanic, framer, electrician, and a plumber, he ranched his own horses and cleared trails with his 4 wheelers.  He was the president of the Backcountry Horseman of Priest River Valley for 3 years.  He had sailed the sea going to Alaska and back. He was a fisherman and a hunter, a caretaker, gatherer, and preacher of many things. He went 4 wheelin with the best of them and found God's beauty everywhere he went.  He was strong for everybody and cried with some of us.
He was adored and will be greatly missed by his grandchildren.
He is survived by his beautiful wife of 25 years, Ida Mateer.  His children; Jacob Ross Mateer, Jessica Marie Shefstad, Crystal Anne Brauhn and their spouses and children.
He wanted everyone to know "He's on to the next big thing."

A graveside service will be held Saturday August 21 at 10AM at Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River, ID
