Obituary

On February 20, 2022, at the age of 86, our Beloved mother, Jean MaryAnn Orton died peacefully in her sleep in her home surrounded by loved ones after a long and courageous battle with several health issues.

Jean was born on January 7, 1936, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to George and Mollie Ashworth.  Her mother Mollie died when Jean was just a year old.  Jean's father later married Florence and together gave Jean 2 sisters, Diane and Margaret, and 1 brother, Raymond.

At the age of 18 Jean married Gilbert Wagner and together they created a family of 7 children.  Jean & Gilbert lived for a time in Milwaukee, then moved around to several places in Montana and Washington finally settling on Graham road a few miles south of Ione where they lived together until the early 1980s.

Jean & Gilbert's marriage sadly ended in divorce, and Jean later married Chuck Orton.  They resided in Metaline Falls and were together until his death.

She loved people and the places she chose to work reflected that.  For a time she worked for the Forest Service which she really enjoyed and also worked several places in Metaline Falls and Metaline as a food server and bartender. During her residence in Metaline Falls she was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 144. She loved talking to people and being where the action was!  She had so many friends and was always willing to welcome people into her circle.

In earlier years she loved playing pool and darts with her friends and also going the Casino.  She enjoyed playing poker with her son and their poker buddies. She enjoyed doing many crafts and jigsaw puzzles. In later years then her sight got too bad to do any of her hobbies anymore she played games and kept in touch with friends and family through her computer.   And anyone who knew her would know of her love for her precious Tweety Bird!  She had stuffed tweety birds, tweety bird cups, plates, plaques, pictures, key chains and even a tattoo of Tweety on her arm!

But the thing that was most important to her was "her babies" as she called all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She lived for each moment she could get with family and friends and loved feeding anyone who came near!  If she loved you – you knew it!

Jean was preceded in death by her mother, Mollie Ann Ashworth, her father, George Ashworth, stepmother, Florence Bernice Ashworth, and grandson, Seth Conrad Grant.

Her surviving children are Donna (Willy) Newman, Joan (Bill) Utecht, Darlene (Chris) Tuttle, Lynn (Bear) Holter, Daryl (Lena) Wagner, Jenny Ford, and Mollie Wagner.

Surviving stepchildren are Jeff Orton, Alison Cooper, and Melissa Nassie.

Surviving siblings are Diane (late George) Lindemeyer, Raymond (Kathy) Ashworth, and Margaret Endres.

She is further survived by 19 Grandchildren, 33 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great Great Grandchildren and various step grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
