James Leland
Sawley
Aug 14, 1962 — Mar 23, 2026
Blanchard
James Leland Sawley, age 63, passed away on Monday, March 23rd at his home in Blanchard following a sudden illness.
He was born on August 14, 1962, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to Betty and Sam Sawley. The youngest of seven children, James spent most of his life in and around Coeur d'Alene and Spirit Lake—places he knew like the back of his hand.
Early in his life, he worked for Silver Eagle Erection, helping assemble steel buildings. He was a man who didn't shy away from tough jobs and always had a story, an opinion, or a joke ready.
James is survived by his daughter, Brittany; his grandchildren; his brothers, Jan, Dave, and Moose Sawley; and his sisters, Becky Snyder and Debbie Sawley. But if you really knew James, you know his circle went far beyond family—his friends were his people, and he loved them like family. He also leaves behind his loyal dog, Blue, who was never far from his side.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Sam Sawley; his brother, Kevin Sawley; and a nephew.
James will be remembered for his stubborn streak, his sense of humor, and his way of showing up for the people he cared about. He wasn't one for fancy words or big fuss—but he appreciated a good laugh, good company, and living life on his own terms.
Cremation will take place, with burial to follow in Spirit Lake. A celebration of life will be held at a later date—where stories will be told, laughs will be shared, and knowing James, he'd want it kept simple and maybe just a little loud.
