James Batie, born in Twin Falls, Idaho, on July 28, 1976 passed in the morning hours of June 1, 2020 after losing his battle with cancer. James built a simple and beautiful life in Pend Oreille County with his wife and children and near his parents, his brothers and their families.

An avid sportsman and outdoorsman, James loved sharing his passion for hunting and fishing with others. He not only did this by sharing his joy of hunting and gun safety through Pend Oreille County Hunter's Education Group, but by patiently helping many friends, family and young people learn to hunt, fish, build, survive and become more self-sufficient. His patience, gentle nature, amazing laugh, desire to help others, and strong faith in God have left a lasting imprint on the lives of everyone he knew.

The defining characteristic of James' life, however, was his commitment to building an amazing life for his family and all of those around him. He taught his children to be self-reliant and to take care of the people around them. Whether he was supplying neighbors with wood for the winter, plowing a long drive or helping others navigate personal hardships, he provided everyone he met with a kind smile, the opportunity to make a new friend and a brighter day.

James faced his own death the same way he lived his life... with passion, love, dignity and strength, saying, "I have lived three full lives. I have no regrets."​

James is survived by his wife, Megan Batie, his three children Tanner, Kody and Emma Batie, his father and mother John and Pam Batie, siblings Shannon Winslow (Jeff, husband), Jason Batie (Samantha, wife), Joe Batie (Melody, wife), and Godparents Ray and Beverly Sweeney. In addition, James is survived by numerous loving aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Pend Oreille County Hunters Education Group (Checks payable to: POC HEG). A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 10 a.m. at American Lutheran Church.  Face masks will be required for attendance.
