Ida Beth Rile passed in her sleep on April 21, 2021.

(Age 87)

Ida was born on December 29, 1933 in Usk, Washington to Owen and Catherine Click.   Her birth completed their family as she joined two older brothers, David and Ollie.

In 1943 the family purchased a farm on Five Mile Prairie in Spokane.  Ida did her part helping with the farm chores and attended school at the Five Mile Prairie School, and graduated from Mead High School in 1951.

Ida married Bobby Rile, an Air Force serviceman on January 25, 1953 in Spokane.  Ida and Bobby bought a home on the north side of Spokane and began their family.  Robin arrived in 1953 and Steve in 1959.

Ida began her career at Essick's Draperies where she honed her decorating and sales skills.  She then went to work in the drapery department at Montgomery Ward.  It was here she became fast friends with her coworker, Norma Lesher.  The duo were featured on many television ads and became well known fixtures in the Spokane area.  In 1980 they opened their own business, Ida & Norma's Draperies, where they provided in-home appointments for clients to shop for custom made draperies.  Many Spokane area homes are still adorned with custom window coverings purchased from Ida.

Although well known as a successful professional with her own business (unusual for the time), Ida was also a talented homemaker.  Her home was exquisitely decorated and always immaculately clean.  Holiday dinners were a treat with her elegant table settings.  Ida's yard was gorgeous, full of blooming flowers without a weed in sight.  She loved color and it showed in everything she did.  She was always beautifully dressed, and her make-up and hair were always done.

As a remarkably skilled seamstress, Ida created a plethora of projects on her sewing machine. She made bridesmaid dresses for three different weddings in the family and a wedding dress for her daughter-in-law!  She turned out teepee and intricate doll clothes for the grandkids. Treasured baby quilts, complete with hand embroidery, were sewn with love for new additions.

Ida was a musician and loved music. In high school, she sang with the Triple Trio Chorus. In later years she entertained guests with tunes on her organ, baby grand piano and yes, even her accordion!  She would often play "Onward Christian Soldiers" on the old piano downstairs, the music wafting up the stairs.

After retirement Ida and Bobby enjoyed camping, bowling, relaxing in their backyard swimming pool with the grandkids and trying out their luck at the casino. Ida enjoyed having lunch and visiting with her friends, many of them lifelong friends. She enjoyed her family, attending activities, visiting and staying in touch by phone.

When Bobby passed in 2004, Ida became a "snowbird" and wintered in Arizona.  She made friends easily, everybody loved her.  In Sun City Grand, she enjoyed the camaraderie of the ladies in the Stitchers and Beading clubs.  A gift of her elegant handiwork became a gift to be cherished.

Ida is predeceased by her parents, husband Bobby, brother Ollie Click and her good friend, Norma Lesher.  She is survived by her companion, Edward White, her brother David (Laurel) Click and sister-in-law Patricia Click.  She is also survived by her children, Robin (Dwayne) Anderson, Steven (Christine) Rile, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren Jason (Vanessa) Anderson, Walter, Thaddeus and Ida and Joy (Michael) Sheikh, Troy and Laura, Hannah Rile and Hailey Rile among other nieces and nephews.

From the farm to a successful business owner, Ida was a talented and hardworking woman who was well ahead of her time.  She showed us a woman could raise a family and run a business (and make it look easy)!  To all the lives she touched, she will be greatly missed, but always loved.

Services for Ida will be held Saturday, May 1st, 11:00 am at Sherman-Campbell Funeral Home, 423 W 2nd Street, Newport, Washington 99156, followed by a graveside service at Newport Cemetery, 161 Cemetery Ln, Newport, Washington.
