Helen Joan Carlson, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026, at the age of 93. She was born on January 7, 1933, and lived a life rooted in faith, service, and deep love for her family and community.

A devoted and godly woman, Helen was a faithful member of Ione Baptist Church since 1981. Her faith guided her daily life and was evident in the kindness, strength, and compassion she showed to everyone she met.

Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald Carlson, in 1988. Together, they built a life centered on hard work, dedication, and family. They farmed and raised cattle for many years and later owned and operated the Curlew General Store from 1977 to 1980.  Later they moved to the Ione, Metaline, and Metaline Falls community where they faithfully delivered The Spokesman- Review for many years She had a heart for children and education. Helen worked as a substitute teacher at Cusick High School and Selkirk High School and also served as a Head Start teacher and bus driver, touching the lives of countless young people.

Though she was an only child, Helen created a large and loving family of her own. She was the proud mother of six children, Richard Carlson (Belinda), twins Andrew Carlson(Teri), Amy Baxter  (Mike). Phillip Carlson (Becky) Ruthanne Brown and Joan Corkill, and  A very special  son in law, Alan Enyeart.  Her  legacy continues through her many  18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was lovingly known as "Grandma" not only to her own family, but to many others who were blessed by her warmth and care. Helen also had a gift for music. She could sing hymns like no other, and her beautiful voice brought comfort, joy, and inspiration to all who had the privilege of hearing her.

She will be remembered for her unwavering strong  faith in the lord, her strong work ethic, her gentle spirit, and the love she gave so freely. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
