Gordon Grant Smith Jr., 64, of the Spokane area, passed away unexpectedly on the evening of April 30, 2026.

Gordon was born in California on August 8, 1961, and moved to the Spokane area shortly after. He attended Upper Columbia Academy and was a proud EWU graduate. He spent the majority of his professional career helping others in various fields, primarily as a highly respected union representative for Council 2. There, he advocated for countless Spokane County and City, and Coeur d'Alene City employees for multiple decades.

Outside of work, and more recently during retirement, Gordon found joy in many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid Seahawks fan. Everyone remembers him as an incredible home cook; he regularly hosted family and friends for football games and holidays, providing a wide variety of food that always kept the compliments flowing. He liked listening to classic rock and early metal, and he loved taking his fully custom-rebuilt 1968 Pontiac Firebird to car shows all around the Inland Northwest.

Most of all, Gordon was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time surrounded by those he loved. Taking great pride in his family through regular gatherings, laughter, or just being there when he was needed, he created long-lasting memories with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Gordon is remembered by his loving wife, Pete Gatts. He is survived by his four children: Gordon Smith III (Ashley), Natasha Smith, Shannon Gibson, and Allie Schlosser (Jared). He was blessed with seven grandchildren and also leaves behind his sister, Cindy, and his brother, Steve.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on Gordon's behalf to organizations that support union workers or member assistance programs, like those affiliated with Council 2.

Gordon will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
