Glenn W
Kiehl
Oct 2, 1926 — Dec 4, 2022
Newport
Glenn W. Kiehl passed away peacefully on December 4, 2022, at the age of 96. He was born on October 2, 1926, in Curlew Washington. Glenn graduated from Curlew High School in 1944 as the only student in his class. While in Curlew he worked at the lumber mill and helped to build the Theater. He attended Washington State College for a year and then joined the army where he was stationed in Ft. Hood, Texas. After being discharged from the Army he went to work for Pacific Car and Foundry. Then traveled to Anchorage Alaska. Glenn liked trying new vocations, he tried long-haul trucking, a forester for Gacona and even captained his own boat the Double Knot.
When he retired his wife Tillie and Glenn moved to Newport, where he worked on the Forest Service "Heart Attack Crew", started his own sawmill, managed some apartments and played in two grassroots bands. Easy Pickens and Cooks Mt. Country Grass.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Spokane for their caring support over the past year – especially Kelly, Mary, and Emily. And all the caregivers for taking such good care of Glenn in his final months.
Glenn was preceded in death by his wife Tillie in December 2021 and his stepson Lenny Nichols. He is survived by his daughter Karen Wilson, stepdaughter Jackie Reichert, stepson Ray Nichols, and daughter-in-law Pam Nichols, stepdaughter Rachel Neely. He had numerous nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren.
Memorial graveside services will be held later in the spring. Donations can be sent to Hospice of Spokane, Kettle River History Club, or the Newport Hospitality House.
