George Carlos Moore 96 of Laclede, Id passed away peacefully on November 27, 2023. George was born in Hackensack, NJ to George and Anna Moore on August 5, 1927.  George grew up in New Jersey and graduated from Park Ridge High in 1945 and joined the Navy that same year and was stationed in Seattle, WA. There he trained as a radio operator in the SB2C Helldiver bomber. George was one of the last few remaining veterans of WWII, he also enlisted during the Korean War.

After being discharged in 1951 George made the trek across the country in a Model A Ford with two of his closest childhood friends where he would find his forever home in the Pacific Northwest. George owned a ranch in Clark Fork, ID where he and his first wife Lois, had four children. Debbie, Chris, Brett, and Anne.

George divorced and moved to Sandpoint where he began working as a butcher and meat department manager for Safeway where he would be employed for the next 31 years. After retiring from Safeway, George worked part time for Ernco Vending for the next 14 years. While living in Sandpoint George met the love of his life, Margaret Hyer.  George and Margie were married in December of 1968. They moved to Laclede where they raised three children, Krissy, Rick and Lisa. After Margie passed away in 2005, George continued to live in their family home for a total of 53 years. He loved taking care of their beautiful yard, garden and orchard. He especially enjoyed making grape juice and applesauce with his "secret ingredient "from the annual harvest.

George was an all-around avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, hiking, fishing, and canoeing. He was a die-hard Gonzaga basketball and Notre Dame football fan.  George was an active member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Priest River. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbor. Making countless lifelong friendships throughout his life.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and siblings. He is survived in death by his seven children, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services celebrating George's life will be held on Tuesday, December 12th at St. Catherine's church in Priest River. Mass at 10:00 am, funeral service at 11:30 am followed by a potluck reception at the Priest River event center.
