George Cummins died Oct.1, 2022 in his home leaving behind his wife of 59 years and two children, Colleen Cummins from Albuquerque, NM and Kary Cummins from Tulsa, OK.
George was born and raised in Biloxi, MS, and joined the Navy after High School. He met his wife, Arlene Holcomb, while stationed in San Diego. Following a career in the Navy as a submariner, the family moved to Newport in 1976 where Kary and Colleen went to Newport Middle and High school. They both graduated and went on to college.
George was the best husband and father ever. He was a hard worker and was always willing to jump in and help people. George had a variety of jobs while in Newport, the last being at Selkirk's ACE hardware. After he stopped working there, a daily trip to the hardware store for coffee and visiting with previous co-workers and customers made his day. Even though he was no longer a paid employee he loved helping the customers. Because he became a handyman, he fixed things in his own home and was able to help others with their problems.
He and Arlene liked to go skiing, camping, kayaking, and could be seen along the highways and byways on their bicycles. Walking and playing with Julie and Little Bit, the family dogs, who liked to sleep with him, brought him joy.
His wife and children miss him greatly.
