Gary Leon Douglas, Sr.

Born January 29, 1944 in Ontario, OR. He passed away in Newport, WA

on July 18, 2023 after a short battle with cancer. He is preceded in

death by his parents, Norman and Margaret Douglas. He is survived by

his brother Dean Douglas of Priest River and his four children, Gary L.

Douglas Jr. (Jeannie), Tricia Shanholtzer (Tom), Roby Douglas (Veronica)

and Heather Merrifield (Jason). He has 13 beautiful grandchildren,

which he treasured beyond measure. He married Sharon Conkright on

August 31, 1991 and lived on the Pend Oreille River until his death.

Gary was a proud PRLHS graduate of the class of 1962. He was a

member of the Laborers' Union Local 238 and recently received his 35

year pin for service. Gary moved from Quincy, WA with his family when,

he was in the eighth grade to make his life in Priest River. He was quite

the athlete and participated in basketball (his favorite sport) and

baseball. Stories have been told that he was also an avid "marble"

expert and won a baseball bat in a tournament when he was a kid! His

favorite sport as an adult was definitely fishing. He loved spending time

with his friends from high school fishing the day away. His family and

friends meant the world to him and he would have done anything for

anyone. That was Gary. Kind, loving, funny, and full of great stories.

He always had a smile on his face and much love in his heart. He will

be greatly missed by all who knew him and for those who didn't have

the privilege of knowing him, you would have been his friend too.

We will be having a Celebration of Life in Priest River at the Old Settlement School on August 26, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
