Frieda Odell passed away on March 31st ,2025. Born Elfrieda Marie Blakley on 10/15/42 in Hydro, Oklahoma. She would meet the man who would become the love of her life, Lyndon Alvin "Bud" Odell, they would marry on 12/21/59 and while Bud's career would take them across the nation, more than once, Frieda found her life calling in being a mother as well as a foster parent.  Frieda, although not an athlete herself, loved to go to all kinds of sporting events to cheer on her children and later her grand children. She was extremely proud of all of her family and even in this last month, would still brag about her children's basketball and baseball and sport accolades. Her support, encouragement, love, and amazing away game lunches were the push behind all of her athletes. Frieda's biggest gift to those lucky enough to know her, was her compassion and love. She helped hundreds of children in the foster system over the years and was described as "sometimes the only love these children have ever known." Despite a few different retirement attempts, her reputation and ability to take on children from all sorts of situations would have her return to fostering a few different times. In addition to her biological children: Gary, Troy, Debra and Dina, Frieda and Bud would adopt Tina, Holly, Heather and David. Frieda was able to exhibit an unmatched love for her family and despite the family spreading out in the world, she constantly would ask about them and in her later years and would consistently revisit fond memories of all of her children, as well as her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Despite having memory problems late in life, Frieda's quick wit and fiesty demeanor was enjoyed by family friends and the staff where she lived. Grandma showed me that no matter the situation you can always have love in your heart for those who need it, regardless if they want it or not. "I figure all any kid needs is hope and the feeling he or she belongs. If I could do or say anything that would give some kid that feeling, I would believe I had contributed something to the world." - Elvis Presley Bud preceded Frieda in death on 1/13/2009.We will update this website when arrangements can be made.
