Frank Ernest Capehart Jr. passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021 at the age of 92 in Newport.  Frank was born December 5, 1928 in Kennewick, WA, to Frank and Marie Capehart. The family moved to Blanchard, Idaho in 1945.

He worked at Diamond Match Lumber in Newport from 1948 until he joined the Air Force in 1951, where he was a Staff Sergeant and served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, worked as a long-haul truck driver for many years, and worked in the woods running a bulldozer for Diamond Lumber.  He also worked for Pend Oreille County Road department plowing snow. Before he retired in 1993, he worked for Greenacres Gypsym in the Spokane Valley as the office manager.

He married Gladys Smith in 1948, who proceeded him in death in 2002. They had been married 54 years. He is survived by their one daughter, Christine Hendrickson (Ed) of Newport, granddaughter, Kim Martinez (John) of McMinnville Oregon, grandson, Eric Hendrickson (Becky) of Post Fall Idaho and 4 great grandchildren, Katie, Ryan, Maria, and Molly Martinez.

He is also survived by his sister, Annabel Oscarson (John) of Nevada, a niece, Elizabeth Snedeker of Antioch, California, a nephew, John Oscarson of Colorado, and several great and great, great nieces and nephews.

During retirement, he spent time volunteering and playing golf into his late 80's where he made 3 "holes in one", his first at age 87 and his 3 ^rd at age 89.

He was a past captain of the Pend Oreille County Search and Rescue, was a past commander of the American Legion Post 217 in Cusick, was on the Board of Commissioners for the Newport Cemetery and past Chairman of the Board and was a member and past co-chairman of the Pend Oreille Valley Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He spent many hours volunteering in the kitchen and serving at special functions for River Mountain Village Advanced Care and Assisted Living.  He was also in charge of the Veterans Assistance program for several years, as helping veterans was very important to him. He was given the wonderful opportunity to go on the Honor Flight to Washington DC in October 2017.

Graveside services will be held at the Newport Cemetery on Saturday, November 6 ^th at 10:00 AM
