EUGENE "GENE" A. DAVIS
Gene Davis, 81, died of Covid on October 22 at Valley Vista Care Center in Sandpoint, ID.
He was born June 12,1940 in Wirt, MN to Robert and Angeline Davis. He joined his four sisters and a brother. The family moved to Spirit Lake, ID when he was 7 years old.
Gene graduated from Spirit Lake High School and married the love of his life, Marty, in 1960. They spent 36 years together before she lost her battle to cancer. He worked several jobs throughout his life. His most memorable were the times at Pennel Mink Farm when they first moved to the Newport area and working as school bus driver and custodian at Newport Elementary School which he retired from after 30 plus years. Gene loved seeing the kids daily and was so proud of the jokes he would play on everyone!
He enjoyed horseback riding, fishing, hunting, camping and the Seahawks. Gene loved the activities most when he shared them with his family. He raised his children and grandchildren to have a great appreciation for the outdoors. Gene is also remembered by his love of music - if he wasn't listening to it, he was singing it. His daughter Peggy was always sure to smile when he would belt out "Peggy Sue" to her! Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins and Elvis were also sure to be sung. Granddaughters, Crystal and Desiree, would serenade him back with "I Like It, I Love It" which would drive him crazy! We couldn't wait for our birthdays to hear him sing "Happy Birthday" to us.
Survivors include his five children - Bill (Ilona), Oldtown, ID; Dan (Kari), Priest Lake, ID; Peggy Banks, Spirit Lake, ID; Tim, Spokane, WA; Nancy (Jim) White, Newport, WA; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother James and sister Ruby Irwin, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at Sherman-Campbell Funeral Home in Newport on Saturday, November 20, at 11:00 a.m.
