ESTHER ELIZABETH KNUDSEN

January 25, 1921 - December 17, 2020

Esther was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Jens and Martine' Knudsen, immigrants from Denmark. Esther had an older brother, Jens Olof Jr, and a younger sister Norma Janette Knudsen Wylie.

The Knudsens' farmed and owned a dairy in Iowa and delivered milk in Omaha. Esther had many happy memories of helping on the farm and delivering milk with her dad.

The family moved to Priest River, Idaho in 1932, first to a farm in the Settlement area and later to town.

Esther graduated from Priest River High School in 1939 with special accommodations in the secretarial and bookkeeping classes.

In 1940 she moved to Illinois and began working at The Great Lakes Naval Academy. In 1946 she moved to Roseburg, Oregon to be close to her brother Jens Jr., injured in WW11. She began working in the VA hospital there.

Esther retired in 1980 as secretary to Dietetic Service, Veterans Administration Medical Center, Spokane, Washington.

Esther was a dedicated servant of her Lord. She was a longtime member of First Free Methodist Church in Spokane and enjoyed the fellowship of all of her wonder friendships there.  She was an avid volunteer at the church and several nonprofit organizations.

Esther always expressed gratefulness for all the wonderful family and friends she had in her life.

Esther is survived by her nieces, Karen Wylie Montgomery, Sharon Wylie Martin, Janice Wylie Brown, Cathy Wylie Wallis, Mary Knudsen, Roberta Knudsen Naccarato, and nephews Pat Knudsen and Curtis Cecil Wylie. Grand nieces and nephews Chris Martin, Jennifer Horton, Kirsten Brown Clark, Ann Buth, Erin Seaman, Joshua Martin, Carrie Tatar, and Jeremy Wallis, and 28 great-grand nieces and nephews.

The family of Esther Knudsen would like to thank Rubie and Jae Choi, Hospice of Spokane, and Royal Park Retirement for all the loving care given to our Aunt.

Viewing on January 8th from 1 to 5pm at 423 W 2nd St, Newport, Washington; Interment on January 9th at 11am at Evergreen Cemetery, Priest River, Idaho
