Dorothy Louise Newman

Dorothy Louise Newman was born June 21, 1963 in Newport, Wa to Hogan Bob and Jean Newman. The youngest of 5, Dorothy completed the Newman family, a true gift to her parents and siblings. On September 9, 2021, Dorothy peacefully left this earth to rest in the arms of Jesus.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Hogan Bob and Jean Newman; brother in laws, Pete Miller and Robin Basnaw, and great niece, Vivian Hurlbert. Dorothy is survived by her 4 older siblings, Judy Miller, Metaline Falls; Bob (Coni) Newman, Oldtown; John (Debbie) Newman, Newport; and Liz (Luke) Keogh, Usk; 18 nieces and nephews, 41 great nieces and nephews, and 2 great greats.

As a young child, Dorothy seemed to know what God had in store for her life and was willing and determined to see that calling through. Early memories recount her sharing with family her desire to live life at home with her parents, helping take care of the homestead just off Sullivan Lake Rd, and helping take care of them when the time came. Those who knew Dorothy knew that calling was lived to the fullest and was done so with a strong spirit of loyalty, devotion, and most importantly love.

Not only was Dorothy fully dedicated to the wellbeing and care for her own family, she held a special place in serving and loving her community. From the early 1990's through the mid 2000's, Dorothy committed each morning for 15 years to delivering the daily newspaper. For her it wasn't only a job, but a way to connect with and serve those around her; whether it be community members who were on her route (that she took the time to know personally) or young family members she let tag along on those early mornings, often buying breakfast burritos and hot chocolate for. She was so much more than just the paper lady, and she helped create many cherished memories.

She was also a lifelong and faithful member of the Ione Baptist Church. She served dutifully in the Sunday School ministry, sharing her love for Jesus with the young members who attended. Dorothy spent her life devoted to taking care and tending to the needs of others.

Although she never had children of her own, Dorothy played a pivotal role in the lives and upbringing of countless youth within the community. Whether it was her numerous nieces or nephews, or a paid babysitting job in town, Dorothy was known for her love and commitment to making children feel valued, cherished, and safe. She created lasting relationships with those who were entrusted to her care; never forgetting the time she shared with them, always remembering birthdays, and forever greeting them with a hug and a smile. Up until the end, Dorothy was still doing what she loved and something where she found purpose; loving, teaching, and sharing her days with the children God placed in her path.

When it came time for Bob and Jean to need extra care and assistance, Dorothy stepped up in a way that proved to be a true sacrifice and incredible blessing to her family. She dedicated her days and nights to the necessity of care and nurturing of her parents, so that they could both live out their days in the comfort of their home. She was dutiful, patient, and supportive towards her parents in ways that honored and glorified her Heavenly Father. Dorothy's life was unquestionably the epitome of sacrifice and service.

Her reflection of Christ, the way she was able to truly love those around her, unconditionally, is a beautiful testament to His work in her life and should be a great aspiration for us all.

Dorothy will forever be remembered for her genuine and honest spirit, her unwavering love, and her willing acceptance. While it's easy to feel like Dorothy's life was cut short here on earth, her family finds comfort and peace in knowing the Lord's timing is perfect; trusting in Him and believing that her life's purpose was fulfilled according to Him.
