Donald W. Poster – October 7th, 1958 ---March 28th, 2022

Born in Fullerton, CA., Don was one of 7 siblings. Don grew up playing sports of all kinds and excelled in every one of them; football, basketball & baseball. A childhood of adventures with friends and family one would envy. After graduating from Villanova High School in 1977, Don went on to join the Navy in January 1978. While serving his country, he was also able to see many parts of the world, making him even prouder to be an American Soldier. After honorably discharging in January 1981, he remained in the reserves until 1983. He married his first wife Patti in 1979, and they had their first daughter in February 1980. Four more beautiful girls would follow. After his marriage ended, he met his second wife, Darlene and during their marriage, they had a beautiful daughter. He began his career in San Diego, CA in 1981 as a laborer through the LiUNA (Laborers' International Union of North America) Local 89, San Diego Chapter. Very quickly, as a result of his hard work, strong ethics, drive and perseverance, Don worked his way to Foreman for Underground Utilities. He spent many years operating heavy equipment, digging trenches, setting utility vaults, taking down poles, burying telephone lines and installing fiber optics throughout the entire city of San Diego. You can only imagine the lifelong friends he made along the way. One of those friends was Cassie, whom he met in 1992, while working alongside him. After several years of working together, they fell deeply in love and married on September 21st, 2002. In 2003, Don unfortunately suffered a stroke that forced him in into early retirement, however, many blessings came from that. Golfing and fishing became his new normal, with more opportunities to spend time with his girls and the grandchildren to come. His first grandchild was born June 2003. From that moment on he became Papa to 13 more beautiful Grandchildren. In 2005, he and Cassie had the opportunity to move to Idaho resulting in many trips to and from CA, to visit the kids or transport his mothers-in-law's belongings or a dog or two etc. Don loved traveling by car all over the country. One memorable moment came after Hurricane Katrina. He wanted to help so desperately, so his wife, Cassie, put an ad in a New Orleans paper offering Don's construction skills and time. Within days, he and his dog, Shadow were headed down to New Orleans to help anyway they could. For two months, he helped restore part of New Orleans. That was Don. One of the most generous, caring and charismatic men there is. The last 17 years of his life would be spent in Idaho with Cassie and family and many friends and of course, all his dogs Shadow, Max, Scout, Billie, Tank, Kai, Honey, Whiskey & Denver. Known to many as Poster, Donnie, Dad, Papa, he loved golfing, fishing, playing cards, traveling, watching NASCAR and just loving life, because that's what he did best, with a smile…

Don is survived by his wife, Cassie Beyer, his children: Tiffany, Merritt, Cassandra, Brittany, Ashley Poster & Cierra (AJ) Johnson, grandchildren: Adam, Hannah, Tristen, Madison, Justin, Makayla, Dylan, Sarah, Hayden, Noah, Miley, KJ, Oliver & Delilah, siblings: Mary (Dirk) Bluhm, Michelle Connolly, Bobbie Swaffard, John (Deb) Smuda , mother-in-law Willena Beyer, stepmother-in-law Eileen Stevenson, sisters-in-law: Sherri (Tony) and Sharla (Frank), nephews: Ryan Bluhm, Sean Jurgensen, Nathan Pettit, Jeremiah Jacobe, Tyler Swaffard, Josh Hubbell & AJ Sawyer, nieces: Jaime Buckley, Heather Hamlin, Nichole Hubbel, Tiffani Ironhorse, Kelsee Sawyer and Harlee Chavez. Preceded in Death by parents Ronald & Shirley Poster, siblings: Bill Poster, Lynn Pettit, & Lori Poster, niece Brandi Jacobe, and father-in-law Randy Beyer.

A Celebration of Life for the San Diego area will be held on April 30th, from 12:00pm-5:00pm at the Lakeside VFW, located at 12650 Lindo Lane, Lakeside, CA  92040.

A more local Celebration of Life will be held at Sherman-Campbell Funeral Home on Saturday May 7 ^th at 11AM located at 43 Wisconsin Street, Priest River, Idaho 83858. A reception will follow at Popeye's Bar located on High Street one block away.
