Dewie Estelle
Rogers
Feb 10, 1919 — Dec 4, 2020
Newport
Dewie (Dee) Estelle Rogers passed away on Dec. 4, 2020, at 101, at River Mountain Village Advanced Care. Although she had a few struggles with her health her mind was still sharp as a tack most of the time.
Dewie was born on Feb. 10, 1919 in Yankton, South Dakota to Charles and Lillian (Beeman) Obeslo. She grew up with one sister, Pat. She married Ray Rogers on March 19, 1938 and the couple had two children, Barbara Kay and Gary.
The family traveled a lot as Ray worked for many sawmills in his lifetime. Dewie was excellent as a bookkeeper for several of them and also known for her organizational skills and kept track of everything. She noted that they owned 39 cars, and lived in 55 houses. Ray and Dewie were married 63 years. Ray passed away in 2001 and Dewie lived in Priest River until her 100 th birthday in 2019 and then she was a resident at Newport Hospital Long Term Care and then River Mountain Village Advanced Care.
Dewie absolutely loved being a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and baking, sewing, ironing and cleaning. She was best known for her homemade rolls. So popular at family dinners which she enjoyed more than anything. She cared deeply for her family and was always so interested in what everyone was doing. She relished in visits from family and friends and was so grateful for her cell phone to stay in touch this year. Amazingly enough, Dewie was part of six generations in 2015 with the birth of her great, great granddaughter Candace.
Dewie was a member of Eastern Star for over 65 years. She loved everything it stood for and her lifelong friends in the group. She was known for her brownies that always sold out at the Mason's gun show. She held several offices and helped with their events and fundraising well into her 90's.
Dewie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Kay, grandson Dave, and sister Pat. She is survived by her son Gary (Bonnie) Rogers, son-in-law Don (Jean) Ivie, brother-in-law Kenny Rogers, grandchildren Larry (Terri) Ivie, Bob (Jodie) Ivie, Tami Moen, Mike (Lisa) Rogers and Stephanie Rogers. She also has 15 great grandchildren, 14 great- great grandchildren and one great -great –great granddaughter, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Jenny Cooper and Paul Hillestad at River Mountain for their special love and care of Dewie. Also to Don Ivie and Jean for all they have done especially this past couple years.
