Dennis (Denny)
Mikel Martindale
Oct 6, 1948 — Dec 1, 2022
Newport
Dennis (Denny) Mikel Martindale was born in Newport, Washington to Pat and Rose (Melin) Martindale on October 6, 1948. In 1977, Denny met Janis, a lovely red-haired lady with three kids of her own from a previous marriage, at a dance playing live music at The Pantry in Newport. The two had an instant spark and welcomed their son, Cory into the world in February of 1979. Denny was a local logger for many years and a mechanic. If something was broken, Denny could fix it. He liked the challenge of a new project and was always willing to help a friend, family member, or perfect stranger get their rig going again. Denny loved cars and enjoyed going to Car d'Alene every year. He often gave directions by using descriptions of cars, trucks, tractors, and trees while his hands did the talking for him. In 1994, Denny's life changed forever.
His first grandchild, a beautiful red-haired little girl was born. He called her his #1 (Nicole), and soon after he became a loving Papa to 7 more. Although the first 6 of his grandchildren (Emily, Gabi, Megan, Alex, and Garren) were step-grandchildren he loved them like they were his own. The last two grandchildren to join the crew (Camdyn and Michael) were born to his son Cory and his wife Mariah. Denny was never an athlete himself, and didn't watch sports on TV, nor was he ever really on time for anything, but whenever Camdyn and Michael had a game, Denny set the alarm on his phone so he was early enough to catch the pre-game warm-up. He was the proudest Papa in the stands. Denny was one of a kind. He was the Papa and Uncle to so many more kids than just his own family members. He was a friend you could count on when you needed help with your car. He brought laughter and fun to every occasion he attended. Denny passed away on December 1, 2022.
He is survived by his wife Janis, son Cory (Mariah) and grandsons Camdyn and Michael, mother Rose, sister Patricia, aunt Laura Belle, Uncle Don, 2 sons from a previous marriage. Also, the other very special people in his life whom he loved as his own, Charlotte (Keith), Shawn (LuAnn), Terry (Christy), his two beautiful great-granddaughters (Georgie and Lucia), and the countless others that call him Uncle Denny and Papa. Services for Denny will be held on December 15th at Sherman-Campbell Funeral home in Newport Washington at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you support a local youth baseball club to honor Denny's love of watching his grandsons play ball.
