Barbara J. Schacht
March 26, 1959 – March 20, 2025

Barbara J. Schacht, a woman whose love knew no bounds, peacefully passed away on March 20, 2025, after spending what her family calls "the best day ever," surrounded by both of her daughters and loved ones as they celebrated Easter together at a guest house on the lake. With her daughters by her side, holding her hands, she was gently released from this world into the loving arms of Jesus.

Born in Greenfield, Massachusetts on March 26, 1959, Barbara lived a full, rich life surrounded by family, friends, and an endless circle of loved ones who were touched by her warmth and kindness.

Barbara spent her early years in Greenfield, later moving to Newport, Washington in 2006 to be closer to her daughter, Becky Merritt, and her family. She was a dedicated and compassionate CNA for most of her life, always going above and beyond for those in her care. To Barbara, her clients were not just people she cared for—they were family.

Barbara was a woman who truly understood the importance of connection. She married the love of her life, Robert Schacht, in 1976. Though life eventually led them down different paths, their bond remained unbreakable, with Robert always by her side as a friend. Their shared love for life included many adventures, but it was the simple moments together, like detailing cars, that Barbara cherished the most.

One of Barbara's greatest joys was her family. She adored her daughters, Becky and Jennifer, whom she believed were nothing short of miracles. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she would often say that being their grandma was her greatest blessing. A proud New Englander, Barbara's love for her family extended to her passion for the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots, and the Boston Bruins—"any other team" was always a subject she would stand firm on! A true fan through and through.

Barbara's spirit was as colorful as her favorite shades of blue and purple. Her love for butterflies was evident in the matching tattoo she shared with her youngest daughter, Jennifer—a symbol of their unbreakable bond. Barbara also had a heart for music and dancing, and you could always count on her to belt out a song or share a joke to make everyone laugh. She was a walking jukebox with an eclectic taste, always ready to brighten someone's day.

Her love of life was matched only by her faith. A lifelong churchgoer, Barbara's connection to her faith community was a source of strength. And while she may have been happiest with a pack of Rolos or a batch of molasses cookies in hand, her true home was beside the ocean, where she found peace and joy.

Barbara was greeted in heaven by her beloved husband, Robert; her mother, Betty; her brother, John Bender; and many other family members who were waiting with open arms. She leaves behind her daughters, Becky (Dann) Merritt and Jennifer (Scott) Massey; her grandchildren, Harley (and his daughters, Nova and Oakley), Charles, Carson, Angelia, Katie, and Jason. She is also survived by her brothers, Bruce (Tanya), Jimmy (Nikki), and Willis (Miriam); her sister, Juanita; and many nieces, nephews, and countless "heart children"—those who were considered part of her extended family and were lucky to experience her loving presence.

Barbara's love will continue to shine through her children, her grandchildren, and all the lives she touched. As she celebrates in heaven, we know she is preparing a place for us all, waiting to welcome us when the time is right.

In her honor, we'll continue to laugh, dance, and love as she taught us to (and ONLY cheer for the New England teams). We'll hold her memory close and carry her spirit with us, forever. Mama, we will see you again.

A service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held at Dalkena Community Church on Saturday, May 10 at 10AM. All who loved her are welcome to celebrate her with us.
